People
Alvio Pestarino’s Winery was founded in 1919 when Pestarino Giovanni bought a Cascina with a small vineyard in Barcanello di Capriata d’Orba. Since then, three generations have been involved in the cultivation of the vine, until in the 90s Alvio, Giovanni’s nephew, began the construction of a new wine-cellar.
In 2020 Alvio passed away from the affection of his loved ones, leaving his wife Daniela and their children Andrea and Giulia. Alvio gave a strong impulse to the development of the business, cultivating a passion that he transmitted to his children, who for years had supported their father in the management of the company.
Today Andrea, a graduated in Viticulture and Oenology, and Giulia, student of Environmental Engineering, accompanied by their mother Daniela represent the 4th generation of this Family. With pride and competence, they are committed to combining tradition and innovation in the management of the Company.
Region
Our vineyards are located in the upper Monferrato and they are divided into Cortese di Gavi, Dolcetto, Barbera, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Vioner and Timorasso. Cortese grapes give birth to the Gavi DOCG, which is the most produced wine in our business, the so- called Grande Bianco Piemontese. This wine is produced entirely from grapes grown exclusively in 11 municipalites. The uniqueness of this product is the result of the particular geographical features of this area including the proximity to the sea.
The wine Dolcetto is strongly linked to the tradition of the hills of the high Monferrato. Its promotion and enhancement are our goal. The wine Ovada DOCG is produced from this project. This is a Dolcetto produced according to strict rules in terms of yield and aging, whose grapes can be grown exclusively in 22 municipalites in the hills near Ovada. This wine comes from the vineyards with the best exposures.

Production
Today, as it was then, great attention is paid to the cultivation of vineyards and to every phase of the process: a healthy and ripe grape is the basis of a good wine. Our philosophy is to produce a high quality wine. We want that customers could find the essence of that wine in each bottle.
