Surrounded by beauty

Ovada, a small town situated in the northern area of the Ligurian Apennines, is located at the confluence of the Orba and Stura Rivers and is surrounded by vineyard hills.

The town is characterized by a strong landscape variety, a mixture of history, Piedmontese and Ligurian culture. Ovada is also appreciated for the numerous castles that surround it, for its cuisine and for local traditions.

The wine tradition is expressed in the Ovada DOCG, a wine produced with 100% Dolcetto grapes according to a restrictive regulation in terms of quantity and aging: only 22 Municipalities have the right to give the denomination ‘Ovada’ to their products.

The municipality of Gavi is located in the south-eastern part of Piedmont, in the province of Alessandria, about 60 km from the sea. Historically the city was an important communication point between Liguria and the Po Valley. The first official document mentioning Gavi dates back to 972.

The castle of Gavi, a fortress known as ‘ Forte’ was built in the 12th century. In the past it was a military structure because of its strategic position. This castle, with its almost thousand-year history, has become a symbol of the city.

The Gavi DOCG, the wine that takes its name from the homonymous municipality, is produced exclusively with Cortese grapes. Its uniqueness is the result of particular geographical and geological features including the proximity to the sea that allows the marine to mitigate the climate.
